Japan - Days 4 & 5 - Tokyo

Korean restaurant 2 nights ago. Actually it was a Japanese-style-Korean restaurant. Luckily Dae found a waiter that speaks Korean.

Some of the Tokyo subways are VERY packed.

Shibuya crossing - the famous intersection that it supposedly the busiest intersection in the world. All the traffic lights turn red at the same time so that the intersection becomes pedestrian-only for a minute or so. It seemed less busy than I remembered, or pictured. But we went at a non-busy time. I guess later in the day it's really busy.

Harajuku Street. Kids weren't impressed until...

We broke down and got them a cotton candy that all the kids were carrying around.

I think this is called Meiji park. Kids asked where the play structure was and what kind of park this was and we said "walking park".  Again, they were unimpressed.

Tokyo Midtown had some beautiful cherry blossoms.

We named this 'our intersection' because it was right across the street from our condo and housed everything we wanted for breakfast. Left to right: 1) delicious curry spot, 2) Doutor coffee (home to the best matcha lattes that were called Uji Matcha Lattes) and 3) Starbucks.

So good. Red-bean-filled mochi at the train station.

Bullet train! aka Shinkansen. Kids couldn't wait.

Cleaning crew for the bullet train

Inside the bullet train

haha.

Bento box. I don't know what at least 40% of the stuff is in any of these various meals I've eaten but most of it is definitely edible. Plus they're presented so beautifully and served with the most pleasant customer service!

This was at this outdoor Cherry Blossom Fest set up outside in Tokyo Midtown. See that bubble behind us? They looked SO enticing. There were couches and cushions and blankets and champagne set up inside each one and you could rent them for 90 minutes at a time at fairly reasonable rates! Just the cost of your food and drink. But the guy said they were hot and I went inside one and it was pretty hot so we decided against it. PS - my allergies have been absolutely out of control.....

Just like I remembered - lining up obediently on the left hand side. Even when the line for the escalator was crazy long people wouldn't go to the right side unless they were passing/going fast.

Kids' bento boxes!
