- I finally upgraded our kids' nighttime book selection. We started reading them "Stuart Little" from the library and they really like it. No plot, no villain. Right up their alley. (Funny sidenote: Christian goes "E.B. White? Is that the same person from Trumpet and the Swan?" and I said yes! Meanwhile, Dae goes "Oh there was an E.B. White building at college. I had no idea who that was". Hopefully son does not take after father too closely there)
- I have been on a book reading tear. I'm pretty much swapping books at the library twice a week. Friday I stayed home during the daytime and read for four straight hours. Tuesday I went to the library and found a couch and read for 1.5 hours. It was glorious! I'm reading some of Ann Patchett's books and another book called Pavilion of Women.
- October 3: Olin said "mom there are two different words 'free'. One is the number 'free' and the other is when we don't have to pay money and it's 'free'." hahaha.
- Christian thrives under pressure. We confirmed this yesterday at his piano ribbon festival. He had practiced, but he hadn't practiced as much as he should have, so I was pretty sure he was going to play with some errors and some fumbling through his pieces. Yet, throughout his 4 pieces at the ribbon festival yesterday he played with zero errors! I've noticed that he plays better than ever when the pressure is on.
- The kids helped me again with yard work today. Mainly, raking leaves. They get 25 cents per pile, but when I feel generous and it's a big pile I give them more. We also planted tulips and hyacinths from Woods' Nursery. I hope they bloom....
