Weekend with Gong Gong in Seattle

Gong Gong flew in Friday to meet us at Seattle condo so we got to enjoy a very nice weekend together walking to Portage Bay Cafe for breakfast, visiting both Amazon stores (Amazon Go and Amazon 4-star), driving 8 miles to Burger King to try the Impossible burger (ha!), picking up Olin's rental violin, going to Din Tai Fung, and of course......napping. He left today when we dropped him off at the train station to continue his Pacific NW visit. Next stop: Mal & Didi in Portland!

Rental 1/10 sized violin from BischofBerger on Capitol Hill. He is very excited about it.

Burger King north of Northgate. haha.

Amazon 4-star! Plants ideas in my mind for all of these things I didn't know I wanted.

Moore coffee matcha latte and decaf latte.

Pike Place!

From Olin's Royal Caribbean report, the symbol is where he ad-libbed all of the on-board activities.

Blue Blockers

Christian, little adult, asked if he could wear my blue blockers one morning while watching TV. I snuck in a photo when he wasn't looking. Speaking of the blue blockers, I got them and never wear them.....

Christian got 1st place! Olin won 3rd place. :) Christian won 4 games and Olin won 3.5 games.

Piano recital outfit

School going-out that Olin planned to the library with his bestie, Kian. I think they were doing research on a rattlesnake.

This morning when I went to check in on Olin he was wide awake and told me he "got up early because I decided I really need to organize my bookshelf. It's a mess!" He worked for the next hour, went to church, and came back and worked for another solid hour organizing it.

The design he put in to it (photo propped, little figurines to each side) cracks me up.

Organized by author and/or subject. Hilariously, during the first hour of organization I went in to check on him and he was just laying in bed, not working, staring at the progress he had made.

Construction and audio-visual

I took this photo to remind myself of the contractor overload we've had in our house. Our dishwasher leaked, but there had been no indication that anybody was coming by our house anytime soon to do any repairs and reconstruction. Meanwhile, we had already set up our TV/Audio guys to finally finish the speakers we had wired for back in 2014. They were set to arrive the morning of Wednesday, November 13. Well, they arrived Wednesday, November 13 at the EXACT same time as the damage mitigation people (Zion) in our home. I could not wrap my head around the chances that they would have happened at the exact same time, especially since Zion had given us no heads up as to when they'd be starting their reconstruction. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that's such a coincidence. But I do. :)

Anyway amidst the flurry of construction I opened the pantry door to pack some snacks for the kids and found h&h in there having lunch! There was nowhere else to eat. They had even pulled in their laptop and set it on the counter to watch Korean soaps or golf, I'm not sure which.

Christian's continued skills with a glue gun, cardboard and kebab sticks. He produced this new masterpiece pretty quickly - in an hour I'd say.

They are so cute in their tkd outfits!

Finally practicing chess. They haven't practiced at all in quite a few months but we've been playing a game or two every night now.

Miami for my conference

It was technically a dental conference, but dealt with using PRF (platelet rich fibrin) for dentistry as well as for facial esthetics (micro needling!). I was much more finely tuned in to the latter. haha.

Dae joined me for the last 4 days, of 5. It was lots of fun walking the streets of South Beach for a few days in the 80 degree weather. We ate tons of candy from Walgreen's. Dae told me my pattern is buy tons of candy, eat until I'm grossed out, and then get mad and throw it all away. LOL. Pretty much.

Miami Beach

Sliver of beach from our balcony at Loew's Hotel

Eating a Cubano sandwich at Havana 1957

Ocean Drive

New H&M shirt at Lincoln Road Mall

Front Porch Cafe. We ate breakfast here twice. I had the avocado toast both times and enjoyed it. Dae got Migas and grits on day 1 and Eggs Benedicts on day 2
My first patient! This was the next day after my injections. It was really fun to inject.

I take Dae's blood, spin it in the centrifuge, collect the PRF at the top, inject about 2 mm into scalp where you want hair regeneration. You're supposed to do 3 treatments a month apart to see hair regeneration start (about 4 months later), but Dae has already declined future treatment due to pain, so I bet he will see little to no hair regeneration. :) Non-compliant patient.
Nice hotel service!

She organized our stuff so nicely.

Back at home with halmoni and haraboji, a Howard Amon playdate

They got their uniforms! They all started tae kwon do at the dojo that is VERY close to our house. Dreamy, plus it's cheap which is icing on the cake.

First indoor game...a win! Against a pack of girls that looked older. We got some videos from h&h, so I am excited to see his indoor games in person in the future.

Funny notes: We FaceTimed the kids every night. Christian was trying not to laugh as he told me that "halmoni does funny stuff to our smoothies, like she adds a single grape". hahaha. He says they don't quite taste the same, but I think they have been pretty game about eating everything they are presented.

Time with Puo Puo

We had a rare 4 day weekend with not much on the books except a chess tournament (haha) so we asked Puops if she was free to spend the weekend with me and boys (Dae was in LA). We relaxed a lot, napped a lot, ate a mediocre dinner at Whole Foods for $40 (ha!), had Starbucks together, walked around downtown and enjoyed her company!!!

Christmas lights are up downtown! This is the area on 4th and Pine

Olin's current penmanship. Christian had has similar issues (large handwriting) and his teacher recommended "writing smaller". I extended that advice to Olin this morning and his first entry is already remarkably legible! I will need to snap a photo of new penmanship.

Olin's back to back 1st place in 2nd grade! Christian played up in to the 7th-8th grade division because his rating was high and they asked a few players to move up to even out the numbers. He lost his first 3 games and was very discouraged. He rallied back to win the last 2 games. I was proud of him.

Halloween

Mad scientist and SWAT team member

7th Halloween (?) in a row eating dinner together! We now make Chinese Burritos (buo bings) every year. My mom's recipe!

Post-evening sorting

The neighborhood is really experiencing a rebirth. We trick-or-treated with 5 families, all within a couple minutes walking distance of our home, all with kids similar in age. Score! Finally North Richland is experiencing a renaissance. haha.

Christian's idea of fun and relaxation on a no school day today was making a safe....

It was impressive. You turn the top stick and within an enclosed area is a working mechanism (he explained it "is kind of like what they have on Wheel of Fortune", but he covered it to make it look nice - see above photo) that moves that little lock in and out. He made a little casing to protect the lock part. He said, surprisingly, the hardest part was estimating where to cut the small hole, right above the Style logo. He said he had to do it a few times and ended up having to patch it because his hole was off a little.

Meanwhile, Olin worked long hours on his Royal Caribbean presentation. The diorama was cute - I finally got to see it today during conferences. He drew a ship, complete with the North Star. He even brought his lucky coin we bought in Victoria (during the cruise) as more artifacts for the presentation. I had no idea, since he really didn't ask me for help on anything. He has a whole script that I will need to post once he brings it home. His teacher said he was very interested in the capacity of each ship and the numbers component of it. He said he was also impressed at Olin's ability to go "off-script" at times, and that he built the off-script parts in to his script. haha. Olin loves doing presentations in front of the class.

Camp & Crutches

One boy went to camp Lutherhaven for the week (4 nights) and the other went to a track meet Wednesday, suffered an avulsion fracture, and is...
