Or as Leelee keeps saying, "Karate".
He absolutely, positively did
not want to do tae kwon do. I first tried to convince him 2 years ago and we even went to observe at a tae kwon do studio that got great reviews, and he refused to do it. (Even Olin jumped on the bandwagon and would periodically chime in to say "no tae kwon do!") This year, after I again heard great things about this tae kwon do studio, I told Christian we were going to do it for 2 months. My rationale is that he totally didn't want to do piano either and now he really likes it so I told him that he can't say no to something without ever having even tried it.
Fast forward to Tuesday of this week. We arrive at the place and he's gripping my hand like his life depends on it, dragging me away from the registration desk and saying he will NOT do it. We went back and forth and he was hell-bent on not doing it and I was pretty hell-bent on getting him to do it because I had a pretty strong feeling he would like it once he tried it.
What do you know...he absolutely LOVED it. I've never seen him love anything more, quite honestly! He immediately asked when he could go again. So we are going tonight. The teacher is very nice and very firm and he talks about respect and confidence and engages all the kids. Phew! This time, I picked the right battle!

Walked in the other day to find Christian practicing his piano and Olin sitting nicely in the audience, studying his Sagebrush classroom photo that he loves looking at. |
I laughed out loud when reading " I told him that he can't say no to something without ever having even tried it". Hmmmmm, like mother like son... hehe
