Pumpkin patch opportunities always seem to be clustered around one or two concentrated days in the month of October. Today we had our first one with Sagebrush Montessori, at the Country Mercantile in Pasco. Tomorrow we have the Kadlec one at Bill's Berry Farm.
Today, both kids woke up crabby apples, particularly Olin. Even the prospect of the pumpkin patch, farmer's market, and the library was barely enough to get them out of their funk. They regrouped a little by the time we reached the Patch, and the juice and cookie refreshment definitely helped, but they were both pretty clingy to me and didn't want to let me out of their sight. I was glad they had each other - they held hands and did a lot of the activities together, which I loved.
Christian had his 5 year well-child visit a couple days ago. The only concern we've had is this once-every-three-months rapid heartbeating that he complains of. I mentioned it to the pediatrician so she's referring us to a cardiologist just to be on the safe side. She did not seem concerned at all.
Both boys got the spray flu vaccine and did fine. The spray sure is easy!
Olin LOVES this soy nut butter we have had to use because of nut allergies at school. The stuff's not cheap ($7 a jar) and Olin eats it by the mouthful. He now loves making his own lunch and I am pretty sure his eagerness stems from the fact that he has unlimited access to the entire jar and can eat to his heart's content.
Korean and Chinese food co-exist! My mom taught me to make this tofu-fish dish that has become a really delicious staple, and Dae's mom taught me how to make kimchi jjigae (kim chi soup) out of old almost-gone-bad kimchi. It was yummy, all of it, if I do say so myself.
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are now spent gloriously inhaling the chlorine fumes and sweating it out in the 80-90 degree indoor pool for the boys' swim lessons. They have lessons at 3:30 and 4:30 which translates to 1.5 hours of fun for me. The latest hurdle has been Olin: When he is with nanny, when I work, he refuses to go into the pool for his lesson. Ugh. A little frustrating. All I see is $10 wasted every time. But I don't really feel like there is much I can do to train her to get him to do it. There are still some language difficulties (my Chinese sucks) and Olin is stubborn. So pretty much I give up on that one, and figure at least he gets a lesson when I am with him.
