Olin at 18 Months

Olin had his 18 month check-up today. I had no worries, but the pediatrician was a little worried that he didn't really have any words in his line-up yet. He can repeat mama and baba when we say them, but he definitely doesn't associate things and say the words for them. He just cries and grunts and squeals when he wants something. So a little germ of worry started forming when the pediatrician recommended a referral to speech therapy to assess whether or not he needs some speech therapy in order to be able to articulate what he needs. Deep down, I am really not worried (even if I should be!) because in every other way he seems to be progressing well. I guess I was more surprised than anything.

It's so funny...Christian's pediatrician was very worried about his gross motor skills (lack of walking) and we weren't worried at all. This current pediatrician seems to be worried about Olin's lack of talking and we aren't worried at all. It's always something!

In addition to speech, I got chastised about several things:
1) Amount of milk we are giving Olin. Way above recommended dose. It's like deja vu with Leelee...our boys dig the milk.
2) Vitamins: We are supposed to be giving a Flintstone Multivitamin to the boys every day. It has probably been closer to every month.
3) Bottle: We still give Olin a regular bottle. I have made several half-hearted attempts to wean him and start on a sippy cup but I think I need to go cold turkey.

So, it was kind of a downer of an appointment. I definitely did not leave feeling like I was going to win any parent of the year award!
