Happenings outside of NYC

The kids got lucky enough to hang out with Tyson and Mei Mei 3 times during their week with puops, two of which were at the Lake Sammamish house. They said they mostly tried to tip each other off the SUPs and it sounded like they had a great time.

Puops always feeds them healthy meals and sometimes puts them to work!

Also attended a Chinese church potluck

At the last day of camp, Olin said they handed out a few prizes and he won "player who worked the hardest". Very proud. :) He got some swag to go with it. Christian also told me the main instructor pulled him aside and said that he was a "really good player". haha. So they had a nice time even in the high temps.

Hadn't seen Lisa in ages! The time flew and before I knew it I was totally late picking up the kids from tennis camp.

We're playing Worldle and Olin's got quite a memory for these geographic shapes. He can guess a lot of them in one guess (not all of them, but quite a few) and this time it was two. They don't give you any clues about size or continent or anything, but once you put in one guess they tell you how many miles off you are and in which direction.

NYC

NYC 2022 was as great as expected. Temps in the mid to high 90s plus humidity made me tell Dae maybe we should book a Broadway show for the hottest day. Hamilton it was! It was by far the least bored I’ve ever been in a musical, so that’s a plus. We actually had a really great time. The only sticker shock came when my one glass of wine and dae’s (double) Hamiltini totaled $60! I actually thought he said $16 until I looked at the receipt.

Hamilton!

Cold noodles at BCD tofu house are my favorite noodles

We finished Monday’s and Wednesday’s! And by finished I mean we only cheated and looked up one item per crossword. Hahahaha. That’s success in our book. Breakfast at our hotel every morning was so fun and delicious. One morning we saw Chris Rock and one morning in the elevator and bench outside our hotel we saw Jenny Slate.

It thundered one afternoon so we visited this ping pong and billiards bar in Brooklyn. It was really fun and I even won one set of ping pong against Dae. Irrelevant information is that he was playing left-handed….

Scarr’s pizza, recommended by Dave Chappelle and Alan Yang. It was the most delicious piece of (dry and flat looking) pizza I have ever had. Haha. It honestly did not look appetizing but it packed a ton of flavor in to each flat bite. Dae said I only thought it was delicious because of the hype and I beg to differ.

Dae said “whoa your face is really oily right now” and then changed his wording to
Greasy. Much better.

The front of our hotel. By far our favorite hotel. It’s so cute and nice and in the best part of Soho in my opinion.

They were shooting Gossip Girl in this street in West Village.

Dae got whomped by this fella. Was fun.

Timbers, Basketball Camp, and so on

 All our mid-July notable events:

Timbers win 3-0! We were among the minority in Seattle to cheer on our Timbers as they cruised to a thrilling victory over the home crowd.

Kids and I took a free 1-hour long Market tour. Loved it. Our guide, Amalia, was really friendly and funny and we learned so much about the Market like how it started, which buildings were original, etc. This egg shop sells real ostrich eggs (huge, and $35 each) and we learned ostriches lay one egg per year.

Peony prices have gone up but are still worth every penny. I am happy every time I pass this bouquet at home.

After a year or so of very gentle requests, Olin got to attend a basketball camp this summer and as luck would have it our family friend Matt puts it on. He really enjoyed it and said while his "throwing" of the ball isn't good, his dribbling isn't bad. He gave me a very full report every day on all the games they played, all the skills they learned, how his team did (called "Chicken Squad" and he laughed every time he said the name). Diagrams above.

I asked him to give me a serious look for his 1920s themed murder mystery party put on by a CK girl who he does jiu jitsu with. So fun. We got the hat and bow tie for $6 at Goodwill. He's wearing Dae's shoes (from our wedding! hahaha)

Full buck moon, Night 2. I dragged the family out at 10:30pm every night until we saw it. Dae never saw it because he wasn't patient enough to wait for it, and the second night I woke the kids up once they were already asleep, but I was obviously determined to see it.

4th of July & Ortho

Olin, unbeknownst to me, had been taking photos all year with his Canon camera. Every trip, he says "oh I should have brought my camera!" so, while he hasn't remembered to bring it on trips, he has been using it with vigor at home especially as of late

Photog

CBRC tennis started up again and they combined levels so I only have to make one CBRC trip per day. Score!

Chicken-sitting. What a treat to get eggs!

Christian got full ortho today. This should be the second and final round! His upper right area is the most concentrated area of issues, with the rotated #4 (second premolar) and the #6 (canine) that is taking its time to come out. Probably taking its time because it doesn't have room because of the rotated #4.

I ordered some Volcom stuff and Land's End (uniforms) and had to take Christian's measurements. I always think measurements are interesting. Waist 25", chest 29" (and neck 12"). haha.

Stateside

Always nice to be home! We were greeted with some true summer temps in the 90s.

Cherry picking at Jamison Farms. We saw a rattlesnake! We steered clear of it, it was a baby.

Such a nice and large welcome home sign from Henry, Annie and Claira

Artists at Play park, in the sun

Stopover in Reykjavik airport - travel Catan really came in handy since we had a 3 hour layover

Celebrating kelly's 45th!

Went for manicures. I always love the bright orange/red.
