Waiting...

Today is the equivalent of the day Christian was born last go-around. I can't say I haven't been just waiting and thinking about it every second of the day. In fact, I was all geared up mentally to not go to work tomorrow and now I have to re-route my thinking. Work...

Day with Mom

He seems to have the exact same expression every time he's at Jamison Park. Nose scrunched, left eye slightly smaller, big smile :) Reference the May 1 post.

The days of just Mama, Baba, and Leelee are dwindling, so yesterday on my Friday off I made it Leelee and Mom day. We went to Jamison Park and I realized if he has distractions (a big bucket) he plunges into water with no hesitation. Afterward, we went to Baskin Robbins for ice cream where I gave Leelee the choice of Strawberry or Chocolate. He always picks Chocolate. Surprising...Dae loves strawberry, but I am chocolate all the way so that must be yet another Bian gene he's inherited.

After our nap, we went to Tin Shed for happy hour dinner with Dae (who got off early!) and then I lapsed into a nauseous semi-coma and allowed Leelee to watch 3 consecutive episodes of Blues Clues in our bed. That's terrible, but I have to say Blues Clues is a pretty good show! Speaking of TV, I'm pretty surprised Leelee has not been as mesmerized by the TV as the rest of the family certainly is. Maybe it's because the only show he has really watched is Thomas the Train, and he seems to lose interest in Thomas after about 5 minutes, after which he wanders off to find one of us to play with him. So yesterday I decided to do a test run with Blues Clues which proved he does indeed have great interest in TV! Not sure if that is success or failure :)

I mentioned that he has become a big scaredy-cat and I mean big. Thursday we went to Volvo to get the brakes replaced and he was super scared of the noises from the auto shop. I put my hands over his ears to show him that he should do that and he put up a huge fuss every time I took my hands away. Then we went home and they are doing construction on the deck right above our unit, which trickles down into little drilling and pounding noises every now and again. He was so scared he would not leave my side at home, and when I finally had had enough and left the room to go lay down in another room, he ran after me, scared as can be, yelling "sorry, mommy, sorry!". I felt so bad (But seriously, he needs to get over this). Dae happened to walk in the door just as a frantic Leelee was running around the house yelling "sorry" and he was wondering what in the world was going on!

In other news, he is just so cute. He says the funniest things:

"I have an eye for cars" - that's what he said to Dae last week in the car when he spotted a familiar car on the way home from daycare

"Samich" = sandwich. The "Ch" sound is very well enunciated.
"Polly" = potty

He says "Mine" all the time now. This morning he was clinging onto my leg saying "My mommy...mine"

And finally, I keep expecting this baby to come any day now. My main questions (which are highly important) are 1) Will he have stick straight or curly/wavy hair 2) Will his forehead be high (Dae) or low (me)? 3) What will his ears look like? 4) Will he have flat feet? 5) Will he inherit all my genes, like hoarding food in his mouth and being scared of everything? I just hope the little fellow is healthy. Still no name. I still officially have about 2 weeks, but last time Christian came almost 2 weeks early so I unfortunately have these high expectations now. My dad is nicely coming into town for the weekend to be our on-call grandparent in case there's any action. I hope!

Mama the Dentist, Dad the Cereal

Leelee must have learned how to say dentist a while back, because out of the blue yesterday he was in the car and said "Mama is a dentist". He didn't know what dad was so we told him Dad is a surgeon. So we asked him to repeat what Mama was and he said Mama is a dentist again. We asked what dad was and he said "Uh...a Cereal". hehe. Slightly off, but at least the first consonant was the same sound.

I am always amazed at how nice and generous people are. This morning I met Minah and Selynn for a playdate and they gave me a very generous gift, and last week work threw a potluck for me and Heather (another dentist who is also pregnant) with a gift for each of us, which was so nice. Minah and Selynn if you are reading, thank you! (Leelee sends his thanks as well, as he is dreaming of the gallons and gallons of milk he can get! haha)

Christian is becoming a scaredy-cat, or maybe he always was and it's just rearing its head now. He's scared of most things: water, anything new, remote controlled vehicles (we learned that today), sand, grass, the beach, pigs, any animal except for dogs, which he tolerates but does not love. I know the origins...I too was a major scaredy-cat in my early years, so I know it's Bian genes and not Lee genes. (I blame most other traits on Dae.) Dae likes the story of the first time I went skiing at age 5 and refused to get off the chairlift, therefore having to ride it all the way around. How embarrassing. I still remember the fear and I still have bad memories of Anthony Lakes ski resort!

Stubborn

I came home for lunch today and found Christian completely asleep...like this.

Nanny was a little frantic, and said she kept trying to get him to go to his bed and he said No, he was just going to look at his truck and cars a little longer on the couch, until he finally fell asleep standing up. She said she was afraid to take her eyes off him because he might fall and was trying to figure out what to do. It was so funny. He was just standing there, swaying every once in a while, completely asleep. So after I stopped laughing and snapped a couple of photos, I put him to bed. Not without a fuss of course!

Dae's Benihana Birthday

Happy Birthday Dae!!!

I find it absolutely hilarious that the Baskin Robbins people just wrote "Dae" on the top of the cake. I asked them to at least write Happy Birthday along the side since it obviously wasn't going to fit on the top.

We had a nice dinner at Benihana, complete with some mini tantrums from Leelee. There is an Office episode called "Benihana Christmas" which Dae and I always laugh about, so I thought a Benihana Birthday would be a fitting post title.

Mini Baby Shower

We've had this recurring ant problem in our condo. I don't know what the problem is, but it's really annoying. Anyway, Dae sprayed ant spray yesterday while Leelee watched, transfixed.

My mom's group threw a mini shower for me even though I insisted I did not need anything! It was really nice of them. The cupcakes were homemade chocolate mint...mmmmm.

The kitty was the main attraction of the afternoon. All the kids kept sidling up to the door to get a look at her.

4-day Weekend

I arbitrarily took a few Fridays off here and there and this coming weekend is a 4-day weekend, with not much on the agenda except maybe the Bite of Oregon and the Street of Dreams. Heaven.

Work is really tiresome right now. I find myself not even stifling my yawns in the hallways at work. I do draw the line at yawning in front of patients - not acceptable - but I'm getting wearier and slower every day.

I am obsessed with Mad Men right now courtesy of the Robertson family Netflix subscription. I watch about 2 episodes every night, which definitely contributes to my workplace exhaustion.

Gong gong came into town last weekend and we went to Ev's beachhouse for the night. We had a little celebration for Ev and Dae's birthdays with a homemade cake and some ice cream. Not exactly up to our Baskin Robbins standard but Gearhart, Oregon has limited options! We also went to our second annual Washington Park concert in the Park on Friday evening where the feature was the opera "Carmen". It was very pleasant as usual!

8 months

(My stomach doesn't look enormous in this photo, but I did strategically take this photo in the morning. There is a considerable size difference between morning and evening!)

8 months going on 20, I feel like.

Sleeping, and moving while sleeping, hurts.

I complain a lot.

My stomach is full and uncomfortable all the time, but I keep on eating.

Two weeks ago, I had gained the same amount as I did the entire pregnancy last time, and I still had 6 weeks to go.

Can barely muster any energy to exercise. Last week I did one set of condo stairs and called it a day.

Sick the past week with sore throat, coughing, runny nose.

My bad pregnancy skin is trying to creep up on me, but I am camouflaging it with a tan. The one advantage of a summer pregnancy!

Am sick and tired of being sick and tired! hahaha

On a positive note: I cannot wait to meet the little guy! Now, to come up with a name.

License, Cousin, Mime!

Christian passed his driver’s test! Didi and Ev visited for 3 nights and happened to be here while Christian took his test, which was super ...
