Weekend Update

A couple photos from this weekend:

Stuck. Wants to get down but too scared to put his feet on the floor.

We're introducing this potty, courtesy of my friend Heather. Elmo speaks Spanish and French and says 'el bano'. Christian refuses to sit on it unless he's fully clothed so I would say so far there is very little progression. He does however use the potty for storing his water glass as well as my iPhone!

Update: Christian can now say 1-10 in Chinese! (English, not so much)

January Videos

2 videos:

1) At Playdate PDX yesterday with dad. Check out Leelee's face at the bottom of the slide.

2) Video of his latest and greatest. He didn't do "Eff-oo" this time, of course.

Go-Go!

Christian can now say his "G's"! Up until now, he always said 'do do' instead of 'go go' for dog, and 'dai dai' instead of 'kai kai' for open. This is a big development. I'm going to have to shoot some video for proof.

Today I hosted Mom's Potluck where we welcomed a new 1-week old addition, Levi. From left, Ronan, Olivia, Quinn, Zoey, Avi, Christian.

In continuing news, Christian continues to be a menace with an apple. In a moment of thoughtlessness, I left Christian unattended in the backseat (without bib) with an entire apple at his disposal. When I got home and opened the door, he gave me a look like he knew what he had done.

ABC's

Christian's learning the ABC's his way. That means right now he says "A, B, C....Eff-oo!" and that's it (No D, E, or anything after F). I have a suspicion he learned the Eff-oo from the nannies, since Chinese people sometimes have a hard time saying "F" without adding the extra -oo on the end. Example: My grandma who says "Jeff-oo". Anyway, we get a good laugh!

Let it be a Phase

I have been dealing with Leelee and some extra-intense tantrums (Dae's out of town). The minute something does not go his way, he's on the floor, flat, crying and writhing.

Today we went to Safeway and it was a disaster. First, there were no grocery carts, so this other customer and I had to go back and forth between the two ends of the store until a store employee finally mustered up the only cart he had, which was one of those with the extra kids' part and about twice as long as the other carts. Leelee refused to sit, period. He ended up standing unbuckled between the kid part and the regular cart and I just went ahead and pushed, hoping no employee would notice and chastise me! Well that lasted about 30 seconds until he started dangling one leg off the edge while I was still pushing it. Turns out he wanted to push the cart. Fine. I let him push and I grabbed on above to steer the cart. No go. He started crying and yelling, as he wanted to push the cart solo (not gonna happen). So I tried to put him in the regular front basket area but he strained and arched his back to make it impossible. He yelled, cried and pulled off his boots and threw them onto the floor. So at this point I wanted to just get out of there, but I was determined to get kale. I circled the produce area a few times and couldn't find it and it took about 15 of the longest minutes of my life for a produce 'expert' to come over and find it for me (it was actually there just not labeled, and I have no idea what kale looks like). Then, while struggling with Leelee, I erased half of my grocery list off my iPhone. At this point I was actually sweating, trying to wrestle with my shoeless child and my oversized cart.

So now we are back in the comfort of our own home. Leelee has thrown a little over 50% of his dinner onto the floor, I have said "No" very firmly, and he has proceeded to, in the next second, throw another fistful of food on the floor. The most recent "No" resulted in a 30 second staredown between the two of us. I am pretty sure this weekend he is winning!

Skiiiiiing!

We had a great time skiing yesterday. I checked my lift ticket that was still attached to my ski jacket, and the last time we had been skiing was January of 2007, a cool 4 years ago! Luckily, my skillset isn't high enough to have become rusty, so I was the same old mediocre skier I have always been.

The weather was gorgeous, and thanks to Ev and Jeff we were Leelee-less for more than 24 hours. We missed that little guy but got to see a movie, go out for noodles, and ski!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!

We spent the New Year in Gearhart at Ev's Beach House. It was warm and cozy, with lots of good food and Nintento Wii-ing to be had! The weather held up quite well. It was actually sunnier and warmer on the Coast than inland in Portland, which is a rarity!

The following are all photos taken on our....(drumroll)...new iPhones! It's a good thing I ended up returning that iPad because two days later, my iPhone fell and broke for good so I went phone-less for 5 days, until Dae convinced me that it was time for the upgrade. Anyway, I think I would have been on gadget overload with an iPad and new iPhone.

Well child visit. His BP was a little low (80/64) so they did a longer blood pressure check and told him to make sure he was WELL hydrated. ...
